Re: old gas disposal

your'e suppose to take it to a class A dump, where they burn it, at a high tempature. Your'e right not to dump it onto the ground. this is our ground water. you can call the community that you live in or the trash company and ask if they take this. Myself i have collected about 5 gallons as well. I will call our recycle services. If they won't take it, I will mix it in with the new fuel, a little at a time. what I can't recycle I'll burn myself. I'll have to wait for winter or some rain. we are in the triple digits till november...sl

Most guys add it to another fuel tank. . . car, truck, tractor, lawnmower. . .in small amounts.

I wouldn't put it in a fuel injected engine, but a lawnmower or carbed vehicle can burn it up for you, bit by bit.

JB is right. My old carburated Toyota (1986) would take it with no problem. I used to fill up, burn off a gallon or so then put in about gallon of the old stuff. Never had a problem.

Take it to your local AutoZone or O'Reilly's or similar auto parts store, most of them recycle old oil for free.....I don't know if they'll do that if there is fuel in it though, but most of the time they don't even ask and just show you where the storage container is at and you dump it in there yourself.

If you choose to burn it in a vehicle, make sure there's no rust in it, or filter it.

A gallon of old gas added to a fresh tank of gas in your car will not harm anything. Any modern fuel injected car has a large gas filter that will not allow any crud to get to your engine.

Certainly, if there is rust in it or sediment, it should be filtered through a clean rag before putting it into any engine. Your 5 gallons will be gone before you know it.

Re: old gas disposal

I was in a car accident recently and had a rental car for about a month....had no problem getting rid of 30 gallons of old gas - rental company was suprised that I returned it with a FULL tank when I only needed 1/4 tank (what it was at when I got it).

-JustMrWill

Re: old gas disposal

All my old gas goes into the lawnmower, leaf blower, or snowblower depending on the season. 5 gallons? It'd take a while, but eventually it'd all be used.

Re: old gas disposal

Get rid of it.
If need be open the gas can and let it evaporate and throw out the can.
$15 is not worth any trouble
10% Gasohol absorbs its weight in water after 90 days and is lousy for any engine.
If you doubt this just pour some out into another container and take a good look at it especially what comes out of the bottom of the can.

Does it still look like gas or is it cloudy with water. Does it even smell like gas anymore or a weak watered down mix of water, alcohol and what's left of the gasoline minus the octane.

They are using the search feature! ;)

LOL We complain when they dont use it and we complain if they do lol. But for anybody reading with the same problem, I would run it like the others said in a weedwacker or something.

Re: old gas disposal

I would mix the old gas with a hundred or so gallons of home heating fuel and let my oil burner take care of it.

In almost 4 years the gas has long ago evaporated. As should this thread.
