In an older Grady (1978) they used polyurethane in the hull. Would this foam have been a closed or open cell type? I am wondering if a person should be concerned about purchasing a boat this old and possible water logged foam or other unseen deterioration. Structurally the hull and deck seem solid.

'78 thats not old, got a '76 searay. The foam was completely saturated. Any wood that was in contact with the foam turned to mush.

Will a surveyor uncover wet foam or rotten stringers?

if he is worth his money he should, or atleast the signs of it. you have to drill a hole in the deck to verify.

Your other option is to weight the hull. Saturated foam will add hundreds of pounds. Could also drill hole at low point on outside of hull.
