I have a 1989 Evinrude V4 VRO 90 HP Motor. The no-oil warning horn (1/2 sec. on 1/2 sec. off) sounds for 10-15 sec. and then stops. This has happened the past few times I have started the motor. Ran the boat with no problems. Could this be the start of the oil pump failing?

Re: Oil Warning Horn

Ebb....check the oil line to the motor. These will get hard and may suck air at connection points. Have you tried squeezing the oil bulb prior to starting the engine? If you do and it takes a little oil to get the oil up, may be time to change out the bulb, oil line and clean out the oil tank and install a new oil filter sock.

And by the way.....welcome to iboats!!

Hey Ebb. I'd disconnect the VRO and add the oil to the big tank. Others may disagree, but I wouldn't trust it on a motor more than a few years old. No disrespect intended OBJ.

None taken Baja. If ya' fell better about pre-mixing, then do it.
