Hello i just aquired a 1981 80 hp 4 cyl inline motor 2 stroke had not been started this year. I drained lower unit gear lube seamed fine just very dirty (black color) no water so i refilled it with new 80-90 lower gear lube.
I put muffs on it hooked up garden hose ,fuel and battery started right up and runs great after running about 10 minutes or so i shut it off i noticed oil leaking out from under the cowling thought it may be from fuel mixture but seems that it is gear oil how can gear oil get up this high and where could it be leaking from. i took off cowling and foud quite a bit of oil inside of it . I am working on cleaning it up to run again with cowling off to look for leak.2 stroke puzzeled as to where the oil could be coming from.
any help on this?

Re: oil leak

gear oil cannot get under cowling. You likely have leaking carbs. Maybe you are seeing fogging oil?
