I have a 1968 Johnson Surfer II with the Buick 283 and I am wondering what weight oil I should use in it. Am I off base by using a 20w50? Or should I go lighter than that?

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... Choice of oil, brands, weights, or anything else has been debated to death,...

Search for Oil threads, you'll be readin' for a life time,....

'bout any motor oil off the shelf won't Hurt yer motor,....
It'll run just Fine on any clean motor oil ya pour into it,....

I've run 15W-50 Mobil 1, 'n Rotella T, 15W-40,.... no oil problems, ever,....

I My world, oils below 10W are hydraulic oil,...
Motor oil is 10W to 50W,.....
Over 50W is gear oils

You're running a similar drive to mine and I put the 20w50 for a season ... then started running 10w40. I didn't see any real difference between 'em.

When you can post some photos of your boat ... Surfers are cool ole' boats.

:welcome:

283 is a chevrolet motor. I would recommend running 20W-50 or 15W-40
