Ok so Im on the other side of the continent (Florida) but we have an ocean here too
Here are a few of the things I do when I go out in the open water. If you need extra fuel use portable boat tanks not gas cans, for obvious reasons. I dont know how experienced you are so excuse me if I make what might seem like stupid suggestions. If your going into open waters you are not familiar with without another boat with you it gets very lonely out there if something breaks. A lot of forums have a place such as this to ask if anyone wants to go along. As far as how big a boat you need, I might get some flack from this but, I go out in a seventeen foot deep V at times even though I have bigger boats. If the wave forecast is under four foot with little or no chop no problem. Keep an eye on the weather forecast and bring back up safety equipment. Radio, GPS, etc
Your going out to have fun not be scared to death, use your head and think ahead.
