I don't understand Dogfish you say that you have a stern drive then say it's a 225 Hp outboard. If it is a stern drive then yes most any marine GM engine will bolt up,but the only problem that I can see is the gear ratio in the out drive. That's such a small change in H.P. I would think that a 200 H.P. would work.

What I have is outboards on a bracket that OMC called stern drives because of the design.

Well Dogfish I answered this the first time ,so I guess that I'll continue seeing as how nobody else has jumped in.(I do wish someone else would as I've not tried it),but I think a 200 will bolt up,if not you could always change the adaptor plate. Then I'm pretty sure that it would work.
That's just my opinion, but opinions are kinda like the proverbial A**** some smell worse than others.
Good luck

Yes a 200 will bolt right up. You should probably get a good parts break down with part numbers on both engines and compare which parts are different and change them. You should also find out what caused the 225 to blow. You wouldn't want to put a bad part on your new powerhead and blow it up too. What year is the 200 you are planning on using? From 1985-1987 the 200 and 225 use the small bore block and in 1988 they changed to the big bore block.

DogFish.... The model number on a Sea Drive engine is usually on the port (left) inside portion of the hood pan, just to the port side area of the carburetors. Have you located a powerhead?
