Cheers all, new guy, first post from long time lurking, and I finally came up with almost what I was looking for on craigslist. I picked up a '90 Heritage 221 for $500 on a trailer. When the guy said I want it gone, 5 hundo, I guess I couldn't pass it up. I mean, if it was total FUBAR, I could always break even or better with the trailer and the scrap. Turns out, besides the floor and transom being rotted, everything in the cuddy is in good shape, the hull pretty good, no dents , nothing and fairly clean. Trailer is solid metal wise , but the bunks are rotted, so I reckon that will be my first order with this boat, repairing the repair stand. 3.0 I/O, I was told by the guys I acquired it from 120hp, Alpha One, with an undamaged, unrepaired skeg. I'd probably have never bought it if I hadn't been reading alot of the restoration threads here the last few months looking for an Islander I could work with. This boat I guess is 21.5 roughly, 7 ft beam. The sellers thought they were in over their heads, maybe so, but what do I have to lose. You guys sure make it seem like something I might be able to handle. Should keep me out of trouble for the winter. And so it begins

Welcome and congrats on the new boat! Sounds like a great deal. Is the Heritage the same as the Islander? Got pics?

Its similar but the islander is wider, a bit longer, and the cuddy I believe has more headroom. Having a difficult time posting pics, I have to figure how to get this device to shrink the files to fit the format.
The original owner I guess passed some yrs ago, and the family I reckon just let it sit with only the mooring cover . What a drag, as I have all the original manuals and paperwork. Lots of stuff tucked in the below storage, you can tell he took care of the boat when he was alive by how organized it is.
I'm surprised there's no extra holes thru the transom from electronics and such, just the pilot. Looks like the last time it was registered was 05, and who knows if he didnt go before then.
The sellers said the motor was winterized, but I'll take that with caution. I've seen a few running 140s around that should drop right in if need be.
But the wood is toast.

Looks like a nice big boat! I think there may be a minimum number of posts required before you can post pics. Here you go:

Hey cheers , appreciate it. Yea, kinda a spir of the moment deal, I think judging by the condition of the tin, I got a good one to start with. Reading thru a bunch of threads trying to put a plan together. Hopefully I can at least get it back to better than the original owner left it. I give him a tip of the cap and beer for the 2 sleeves of silver streaks I found tucked away up front. I'm already ahead ;)

:welcome: aboard,

Interesting, you say this boat is a 1990 Hermitage? Looks like an older style lap sided Islander to me. In 1990 lap sides were long gone.

All the paperwork that came with it says 1990. When doing the research on it, I came across another pic of the exact same boat. I had to do a double take, as the registration numbers we close. Maybe sold by the same dealer up here. They said that was an islander. But it looks to have yr correct graphics, judging from other starcraft ivs seen from that yr. 221 Heritage is on both sides, and the engine and drive are yr correct according to serial numbers. The biggest difference I see between it and the 90 islander is the cuddy not having the side windows, and just going by pics, I dont think it is as big. Outside of the floor and transom, and having to do the bunks on the trailer, I think I did ok for $500. The plus side....the motor did crank over when I put a battery in it. I'm guessing by the last registration 05, this thing probably hasn't run in 14 yrs, so just that it turns over gives hope. For sure to be gone thru and new gaskets and seals in the least, but I'll probably tear it completely down and pit in all new. The drain plugs were out of the motor and exhaust manifold, so the block should check fine. I'm going to give the drive to a friends truster dealer buddy to go thru and freshen up.
I guess it will all boil down to time and $$. The wood work you guys cover pretty good here, and I've been over many of the threads. Thanks to that might source of information, this is going to be a doable project for me. And thanks to you for the information on the bow deck. Unfortunately this isnt the main project now, as I'm in the process of redecking the family pontoon, but when this deal came up, I couldn't not pick it. I mean, I'm buying plywood for the pontoon boat, right? Cheaper to buy more sheets at a time most place.
We'll see how she progresses along and let me give a big thanks to the guys that created the resto threads.....I can do this

Yeah I know you're paperwork says 1990 but the boat is not even close to looking like what the 90's Islander were. I found an Islander that looks like yours, it's a late 1960s model that had lap sides of course and no side windows in the cabin bulkheads.

I've also never heard of a Heritage aluminum Starcraft and the decals are not factory of that era. The 70s models have side windows and the 90s too but they're taller in the cabin.

90 islander.jpg Here's a 1967 Islander, they made 19 and 21'rs.

Found this while doing the initial research right here on iboats
http://boatspecs.iboats.com/Starcraf...0/bp/54br1466y

Then this Googleing away one night....

https://www.nadaguides.com/Boats/199...E-221/10175391

Punch in the serial number for the little 4 banger that's in this thing....wellah....come back as a 1990, 3.0

Drive......same thing, 1990 alpha one.......

One of the restoration threads I'm using as guide, by a bloke goes by timfives....his vessel...1991 191 Islander....the "Starcraft " on the the sides sure looks close to what's on my whatever it is.....

I dunno mate........
Hopefully I can get her together and going at some point next yr, and hopefully it uses a little bit less petrol than my old 300 Sportcraft did.....

Sooo the governor decided to shut the state down monday for the next 3 weeks, but the boat shop is open. I have a couple projects going, the main one now being the family pontoon which is getting a complete birthday after 28 yrs a faithful service. The good news....its lovely Evinrude has a new water pump, rebuilt fuel pump, thermostat, rebuilt carb, and a new prop which should be here tomorrow..
Now the bad news
I finally got a chance to put some time into the Heritage. What a bloody mess this thing going to be. I started getting after the floor and it is like bits and pieces toast on the port side. I certainly know where most of the water was getting in and hanging out. The transom....any and all Hope's of getting that out and possibly using it for a template are pretty slim. The POs family really let it go bad bad.
Then under the bits and pieces what do we find......the dreaded foam. I was hoping to hire the missos nephew to do the foam removal, but this unexpected 3 week hiatus has me watching the accounts a bit close incase this goes on for a bit longer. So I reckon over the next 2 weeks I'll make a bit of progress, and get to the point to be able to order plywood for both boats. The toon just needs the deck and reassemble, and it's good to go. I'm shooting for next yr now for the starcraft, although the overtime I'm in for once I get back will certainly fatten its budget, I'll have pretty much no time.
Yall stay safe, i reckon the only good thing coming out of this for me is the boat shop is open.....
