OK so we all know the follies at the boat ramps. Well I have been noticing a trend lately. At one of the local ramp, that I do not really like due to dumb*****es, but have been using it more lately. We used to store our boat at a private marina with a ramp, but have since brought it home to store in our garage to save some money to help offset all the repairs this year.

Well back to the point. The last month or so, while using this ramp, I have noticed some of the prime front spaces being occupied by cars and trucks without trailers. Every single one of them has a person sitting in the driver seat. When we head out, they are there, and when we come back in they are there. I havent noticed if they are the same people though, but I noticed one of them had a camara on the dash.

I suspect they are hanging out there to get a glimpse of the legendary follies at this public ramp. Which is great, but damnit, dont park in the prime trailer parking spaces.

It happens around here too but don't recall any cameras. My biggest issue is with people who can't get their truck and trailer between the lines. I've had to pass up several spots on many occasions because of spots getting wasted from "lazy or inexperienced" people.

The spaces are clearly marked as trailer parking only, but it is not enforced. The "public" without trailers have a whole other section to park in. The trailer spaces are huge so we dont usually have many people taking up 2 spaces. Luckily its a large enough lot that even though the close spaces are all taken up by people that cant read the signs, there is usually a space someplace. You might have to walk a ways , but you can find a place.

as for the spaces with the best view, don't we frequently read here about us perfect ones going to the ramp to watch those who aren't?

We used to use a public ramp coming home from a stay on an island, and there were locals there every Sunday morning to watch our follies (we thought), but also I suspec to see the comings and goings of their friends. This was 40 years ago, and a quiet ramp out in the country, with watermen as well as recreational boaters there.

Watching from the spaces with the best view is fine, as long as its not a busy day, and as long as they are not clearly posted as trailer parking only. When they take the first 4 to 5 spaces labeled trailer parking, it forces those of us that actually have trailers to have to park further away, and take more time to get out of the way for the next person in line. So I doubt any of us would do that, or at least I hope not.

Honestly, it didnt really bother me that much. Just found it curious. Someone holding up a ramp might have gotten me riled up enough to say something, but I didnt see it as being worth the extra time, or possibility of a confrontation.

I usually like to park far away from everyone anyway so it wouldn't bother me.

I always park far away even when I just park my car...I am an anti-social parker. I think it hilarious when I go to my tennis club and I see the people waiting for the close spots so they don't have to walk so far and then they go in an exercise.

Gimma a second to take the aluminum foil hat off of my head, there. You think it could be an investigator of sorts trying to catch someone who claims to be hurt or injured? Don't know - just sayin'.

Hat is going back on so I can go back to being paranoid.

I was thinking more along the lines of someone trying to get a good video to post up on Youtube. I actually thought about doing that myself, but I would park in the proper parking.

Re: Noticing a trend

I have spent a few afternoons at the Eldorado hotel in Kelowna. The deck at the bar is right beside the busiest boat ramp in Kelowna. Several boats are usually stacked up to get out and the same amount are trying to launch from the four lane ramp. Girl watching and ramp follies can make for a fun afternoon.:D

Next time just walk up to the car and tell the driver, "hey before you go and retreive your boat I think someone stole your trailer" and just walk away.
