Hi everyone, changed the impellers today on my 2008's 5.7L gi-300-j. Both were in not to bad of shape.

Installed easily enough, however I noticed an off noise from the engine afterwards. Below is a link to he video I took. Temps are good. Seems to be running fine. No leakage.

Any thoughts? The only odd thing I noticed was that the impeller had one side with threads and the other not. The impeller I took out didn't have these threads, so I guess and put them facing the outside casing.

The odd periodic sound seem to coincide with one full round of the serpetine belt. Check if it has tears or marks on it. For a short timie I think you can also take the belt off and run the engine without it, see what it does. Other than that, I'm amazed your fuel cell is so quiet.

It can get noisy. Removing them today to get them rebuilt.

Thanks, I'll do just that. It's odd that it coincided with me changing the impeller.. I wonder if I hit it and moved it around..

Alright, so I couldn't let this go and purchased a mechanics stethoscope and seem to have discovered it is coming from the circulation pump (Volvo Part # 3853850).

Is this a bad bearing or something? Should I be replacing this right away??

Thanks!

Roger. While I have you, I'm trying to figure out the purpose of it. So the raw water pump that houses the impeller feeds this thing, which then pumps water throughout the block? It doesn't have an impeller or other regular maintenance item does it??

The raw water pump fills the motor and pressurizes the system, the circulating pump circulates water the the block, heads, etc

Normally they last forever in fresh water, about 15-20 years in salt

There isn't any water leaking and temps are good, so I may just leave it considering the boat is already in the water and changing one of these probably requires it to be out.

you can change the circulating pump on the water. however if there is no weeping from the front tell-tale hole, you are good.

Reviving a dead thread here, but did you ever solve this? I’m having the same exact squeal, but mine is coming from the raw water pump after installing a new OEM impeller.

Hey, I changed circ pump. It took me figuring it out by using a mechanics stethoscope. Fixed
