The Delaware and feeder streams are all nurseries for 1 to 10 year old American Eels.

@BWR1953....You did a good thing taking your old neighbor fishin with you....you could tell he was excited about catching that 5 pounder in the video. My neighbor next door is 82, he lives alone.....am gonna ask him to go with me sometime after seeing this.
I hope that you had a chance to take your neighbor out. Getting it done while you can is important.

My 81 y.o. buddy passed away on Aug 8th this year. But, he had great memories of fishing with me and the family!

My wife and I went fishing 2 days ago. Stayed at the pond for 2 hours. Zilch. She caught several bluegill, but they were too big to use for bait. And I never got a strike for bass.

We did see some big bass cruising the shoreline, but they were flat out not interested in anything we tossed out there for them. I'm guessing that they're in pre-spawn mode and looking for bed sites.

Today, my wife and I drove around the state a little. We stopped at the location in Yankeetown, where Elvis filmed the "Follow That Dream" movie. The beach and building created for the movie are no longer visible, but it was still pretty neat.

Then we drove further inland and did some freshwater fishing. My wife caught about a dozen bluegill and I caught a large Warmouth. We gave all of the fish to a young family who were also fishing there. They had a fire going in a BBQ spot and were having a fish fry as we left. Pretty cool.

Sorry to hear about your buddy passing. You gave him some great memories for sure. Unfortunately for my neighbor, Willy, his health took a bad turn shortly after my post about him last year. He was so feeble I was afraid he would get injured getting in/out of the boat. I wish I could have taken him.....he passed on Labor Day. Our time here is short......your statement "Getting it done while you can is important" is so true.......

The weather finally broke, so my wife and I went to the ol' fishing hole to try our luck. The water was absolutely gin clear and we could see plenty of bluegill right there at the dock.

My wife climbed topside and spotted a couple of good sized bass about 50 feet out. So, she caught a little bluegill, hooked it up, then tossed it out there to the biguns. But they just circled it a few times, then meandered off. Ah, well. We'll get 'em next time. :sneaky:

Biggest bass of my life was in a spring fed pond just outside STL that fed the meremac river. In the woods, on state property that no one knew about. No scales but I guessed in the 8 lb range.

And about 30 bluegill on a chartreuse forked beetlespin. It was a memorable day.
