i have a 3.0 merc.
when the engine shut down the temp gauge read 150. is that too hot? i did take the cap and rotor off and wiggle a few wires and then it started up. what is the overheat disable? and how would i trouble shoot it if it happens again? is it the 50amp circut breaker on the back of the motor?

Re: no start

I doubt that your merc has the disable. Some motors, when they overheat, instead of just turning on a light, turn off the ignition. When they cool down they can again be started.

Sounds like you have a loose/corroded connection somewhere.

Tight lines.
JB

Re: no start

150 degress is about perfect for this mercruiser engine. There is generally no power limiting overheat warnings on this package.
Sounds like you may need a little tune up hyggene, points etc if not HEI ign or cap and rotor if is. By all means check all elec. conn.while snooping around.
