Re: nissan outboards ???

Alot of the river guides around here use them and yamaha's. Everything I have heard about them has been good. I have been told that they are the same as Tohatsu. I have a friend with a Tohatsu 9.8 on his jon boat and it runs good and quiet. I guess it is the same as any other outboard, if properly maintained it will run for a long time.

Supposedly one of the most reliable. They are the same as Tohatsu...and are commonly used in commercial with minimum probs.(lots of hours)

They aren't the BEST technology, but simple and effective. The only downside is parts...if you have a dealer remotely near you, go for it.

I did!

Shawn

never heard of tohatsu either.

and honestly I think id prefer simple and efective over the best technology. that combo seems to work well with small 2-stroke outboard motors.

really light too, must weigh half my grampas old 1960s merc 9.9

Re: nissan outboards ???

They ARE cuttng edge technology outboards. They make 4 stroke, two stroke and new EPA compliant 2 stroke...been around for MANY years(only owner/builder since inception in 1956 of their outboard line). Parent company is Tohatsu and Nissan is just a marketing name stamped on the side. There is a dual site for USA EPA outboards and out of country...Tohatsu would be my second choice if I could not get a a particular Mercury. Their motors as a general rule are a little bit lighter. They are very high quality motors and the only consideration should be dealer service and availability to you locally....I would try to buy the actual parent brand Tohatsu...very popular here in south Florida. 2 year warranty on 2 cycle, 3 year warranty on 4 stroke and TLDI(optimax type motor...) 5year corrosion warranty! All come with prop. In additon ALL electric start models come with controls AND prop of your choice. The smaller out boards come with tank and the bigger electric starts come with a all in one tach/warning panel instrument. You gota be carefull here, some unscrupulus US dealers will tell you they are seperate(price gouge ya..) AND THEY ARE NOT!!!! If they try it CALL Tohatsu! 20% off list is a common discount to bargain for, at least here in South Florida. They also have a dealer locator page too. Here's a link to Tohatsu... web page

Re: nissan outboards ???

thanks, been phoning around, havnt been able to
find any tohatsu dealers out here. just one local shop with the nissans

Technically ive allready signed for a nissan 9.8, and have it on layaway with my new crestliner 12 footer. but im sure theyd be more than willing to sell me a more expensive motor instead :D I'll just stick with the nissan 9.8,

I didnt even bother trying to bargain with them, thier price was about $2000 cheaper for a 12' boat and moter, than anywhere else I looked.
motor is a 2003, but last years boat
