The original ski locker covers are missing from my boat and I just have some boards covering them now. Can anyone tell me what material was used for them? Also what is the thickness of it and any sources for purchasing replacements? Also if you have replaced your carpet whatweight carpet did you use and where did you find the best deal on it?

Ski Lockers doors are usually made from the same material as the deck. You'd probably be good with 5/8 ACX coated with 2 coats of 1 part polyurethane. When you apply the poly to the edges make sure you soak it and soak it and soak it until it not longer soaks in. This can take 5 or more coatings. That's where it's going to start failing on you from water absorbtion.

For carpet, I found out the hard way, that the most expensive, heaviest duty marine grade carpet is only good for flat surfaces. The next grade down from that will form around curves much easier and lasts just about as long. If you have a tinny, use the thick stuff on the inside of the sides. It works the best as a sound barrier but the down side is that you won't ever see much of it. If you don't use it, you'll wish you had later and it will be too late then.

If you fish much you may want to opt for Marine Vinyl on the decks and then use a snap in carpet when your not fishing. Carpet is like velcro to hooks and you'll hate it.

As a former 9Teen owner, the ski locker cover was plywood covered with carpet. sshefer is right about the polyurethane. Spar varnish works well for protection. I don't remember exactly how thick the ply was but I don't think it was more than 1/2". It should be flush with the deck. I never replaced the carpet, so can't help you there. One of the other owners will prob chime n.

Re: Nineteen Ski Lockers and Carpet

Thanks for the input guys. The pictures are a huge help Ziggy. I finally got the boat in the water this past Saturday for a few hours and she is one sweet ride! She did take on some water and I have have to put her back in and see where the water is coming from. I read on the board that replacing the shift cable can be the root of a leak if everything is not perfect. I will see the mechanic on Wednesday night and ask his opinion on it. I believe I will have to replace the tachometer because it read that it was idling at 1500 rpms and WOT was pegged out at 5000rpms. It sure didn't seem to be idling fast. Clocked her with GPS going 33 and that is pretty good for it having the 120hp in it.

Thanks again for the help. Many more questions to come.

outstanding!!!

main drive shaft bellows and shift shaft bellows are major culprits for i/o leaks (there's other possibilities too). you may easy see the shift shaft bellows from the outside on the starboard side. tilt the drive all the way up and turn it to port. they're the smallest bellows there and are around a cable. a clamp holds the aft end of the shift cable bellows.
the drive shaft bellows are the top of the to larger bellows that are centered. you may have to remove the drive to inspect this bellows. you should remove the drive anyways to do pm and inspect for water intrusion into the bellows. which you don't want to happen. the lower of the two centered bellows is the exhaust bellows. these bellows are irrelevant. as they just guide the cooling water and exhaust out the prop. these bellows could be missing w/o ramification as this area is always exposed to water inside and out.

if after market, ya might check to see if it's got a setting for 4,6,8 cyl. engines. if in the wrong qty. of cyl. it will read inaccurate. idle is 650-700 in gear, wot is 3900-4300rpm.

thanks for posting. i started a thread a while ago asking folks to put up their speeds since we all the got the same boat. i wanted to see the differences between the different hp's. we could use this info to help diagnose problems if one particular poster had a speed variation that was out of line as opposed to what all others are getting. anyways, thanks.
