newbie transom repair problem

I have read many threads explaining proper materials and basic technique for replacing plywood transon on a jon boat.

I cannot find an answer to the question: Can I use several pieces instead of one solid piece in order to avoid cutting and/or bending so much of the metal framing for the transom? I realize I must remove the support bracket and somehow get access to either the top or bottom lip to slide in any size replacment, but it would be much easier if I could use two pieces cut either horizontally ir vertically.

Welcome to Iboats PSC!

You need one solid piece for strength. I've seen some posted that are a real bear but post up some pics and most likely the collective can come up with some ideas to make it easier to get the new in.

and right off the top....dont use a vertical cut on a transom.
