Newbie Needs help with Newport 27s Sailboat Wood Repairs

Hi I just bought a Newport 27S Sailboat, and it needs Lots of work. It has rotten wood on the top and bottom in the berth and by the head, and other areas. Does anyone recommended any "how to books" or web sites, and what wood should I use to replace it, etc. Thank you!! Deb

Post on this site in the" boat restoration and building forum".
Post lots of pictures! We love pictures!
Most folks over there are power boaters, but boat restoration is boat restoration. Check the West System site, Clark Craft, Glen L Marine, Wooden
Boat Magazine (fiberglass hull not withstanding, this mag is wonderful).
What you will find is the necessity to rip out the rotted plywood saving
as much in tact as possible for patterns.With all this removed, do everything
that needs to be done inside the boat. ie: plumbing,wiring and hull repair.
Reproduce the parts with the best quality ply you can afford.You don't want to rip this out again Seal ALL surfaces with marine epoxy, edges too! Sand it, paint it and reinstall it.
Touch up and go sailing!
