Hello All,

I have purchased a 1991 Monterey 189 SCR. Took it out on the lake once before winterizing for the year. While out on the lake I heard an awful noise. I believe it's the water transfer pump bearing, never thought of this until after winterized. Have a bad feeling the more I think about it that the water impeller broke into peices and has caused the water transfer pump bearings to go... what would you all suggest over the winter that I do and check?

Welcome
What kind of awful noise? Assuming it's coming from the motor or drive

Assuming the water transfer pump, meaning circulating water pump on front of motor

If the outdrive impeller is in pieces then there will be no water going thru motor

The attachment did not make the trip

Yes sorry water circulation pump on the front of the 3.0 L. My question is if the video would upload then would you suspect the water circulation pump and also if the impeller may have caused the circulation pump to go bad? Also since the impeller is suspect to be in pieces what should I do to ensure all pieces are not affecting proper operation.

Not sure if the link above will show the video or not.

Upload your vid to a place like you tube, then place link in media link. Select the 3 dots in top row then it shows lower row. Then select media link

When drive is removed look for impeller pieces. If you don't find all of them start back flushing the hoses going up to and including thermostat housing.

Hope I've done this right, I'm on the app so it's a bit different then the website.

Sounds like a exhaust leak but it was a fairly quick vid.
Was muffs on the drive feeding water?

Suggest remove the drive and connect water hose to thermostat housing where the water comes in from the drive. See if same noise is there

If it is, feel around the manifold to see if exhaust is leaking out

It's in storage for the winter now, Canada the weather changes quick so better safe then sorry lol. I was thinking of next time I am in checking on it maybe pull both belts off and see if there is any movement or rough turning... doing the impeller in the spring as not much room in the storage I am at to take the lower end off.
