new shifting problem

hi, I have a 1975 Merc 115 inline six. It was fine last year when I put it away. when I got it out this yeat it did not want to shift at all, then it went only in forward. It will not go in reverse. It only grinds some. It IS idleing a little high. I am Just sick to my stomache. Can any one help? It was just fine before . THANKS

cable may be shot and or need some grease in the control box that never hurts

Ck and see if the rev lock is sitting on the tilt pin, if thats not the cause it's probably the rev cam.

o.k. thanks for your help. It is now Thurs. I dropped the lower unit and dissasembled. All looks good. backlash, endplay sliding clutch,dogs on the gears have very slight wear for 32 years old. Thank you, you are correct. The shifting cam shows quite a bit of wear. Do you know where I can buy this part on line? I cant find it on this website. It is a blue stripe 115 in line 6 cyl. I think 74 or 75. Thank you so much for your help. I would have been lost otherwise or bought a used lower unit that may not have been as good as the one that I have. thank you!!!!!!!!!
