Hello all,
I have just purchased a 1978 Chris Craft 17 foot Lancer - Stinger "barn find".
It is powered with a Volvo-Penta 305 C.I.D. motor, matched to a V.P. AQ-280 out drive. The hour meter reads 135 hours and it has been sitting for at least 10 years! The poor thing has had three registrations on it, one from New York & 2 from Connecticut.
I'm pretty sure of what is ahead of me for needed replacements, (basically everything rubber, of course!) and I've already found a few metal water transfer items that have dissolved over time, as well. Over the years, the two curved windshields have been broken (but the walk through windshield to the bow is in tact). The interior is in amazingly perfect condition and by all accounts all of the stringers and fiberglass is in great shape!
After three days of cleaning the hull and interior from all manner of ten years worth of dust, dirt, crap, crud and general corruption... I found a pretty solid run-about with a very nice Naugahyde interior that is 100% original (but only 75% remaining.) The rear lounge and jump seats, along with all their hardware are gone and there is a missing panel that covers the batter compartment that I need to re-create. Otherwise, I have a complete 41 year old boat!
But, that's why I came to the forum. I am going to need a lot of advice about were to get the things I'm going to need to restore this boat and probably some mechanical advise too. The engine hasn't been started in more than 10 years and it's missing a few items. the out drive will need some replacement parts too.
Thanks,
Bob
