how ya doing guys. I figured i'd introduce myself.

im new to this forumm , but not message boards in general, and im glad i found this place because its alot more active than marine engine(which also doesnt have a non-tech board).

im from the new jersey shore, had my experiences with plenty of different boats, and there is still NOTHING that beats going out and running the boat around all day.(cept maybe running 11's in a camaro :p )

i have a 1990 18ft beretta that i leave in the water just to use and abuse when i get the itch, and i have a 15ft glastron(my ongoing project) i take out and beat on on the weekends(that gets trailered , not left in).

just wanted to say whats up ;)

oh and in case ya havent figured it out, the names jeff ;)

Re: new guy here

Thanks for the warm welcome guys !!! :)

here's a picture of the "project" 3 days after i brought her home .....

22201326lg.jpg

if that doesnt work, here is a link :)

http://arctic.photoisland.com/sessions/40280863292/22201326lg.jpg

i'd post a picture of my beretta, but its just a plain jane boring boat, i like it tho...figure ill strain the little 130 volvo pulling skiers instead of my outboard, because i have alot less money tied up in it :D .

But
the glastron is my pride and joy. I think its one of the most fun boats ive ever been out on. Rapes the beretta in all aspects too, that lil 4 cyl cant hang with the "tower of power" inline 6 :D :p

well , not when the inline 6 is on a 500 lbs boat :D

Re: new guy here

Welcome aboard Jeff, new members are always welcomed here.

Noticed that you had an Arkansas Taverller. My dad had one when I was 12. It was a good solid boat. A bit slow, but dependable and smooth ride.

Have a great holiday.....

Pic Here: Pic 1 , Here: Pic 2 , and the engine we rebuilt for her here: Pic 3

My name is Jason and I'm a glass-a-holic.......

Re: new guy here

wow i completly missed your first post.

That tri hull definatly looks like she needs a good old fashioned down to the bones resto. Little bit more work than it took me to finish mine :D

that 76 is gorgeous, it has the same color combo as mine. Did you have the metalflake re clearcoated ? I want to do that to mine, but im a little less confident than i should be to do it myself. But im sure i'd be ok if i had something to practice on first.

Jeff,
Welcome!!

Your pic almost works.

The link you provided has the word "sessions" in it. It should read "Auction" for the pic to show.
When you click on the thumb nail in photo island and the pic enlarges, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click on "Link for Auction"(Left hand side of screen) highlight & copy that URL that comes up and paste in the image block when putting in a post.

Re: new guy here

The tri-hull pictures were during the resto. I took it to a bare glass hull and started with all new wood. She is more solid than she left the factory and is actually lighter. After I got all the water soaked wood out. That stuff weighed a ton. That little boat will fly with that V4 Johnson. Top speed is about 40, but the boat is so short and stubby, 40 feels like 80. The ride after resto is much smoother than before. Must be the weight change.

The big 195 hasn't been touched except for the engine so far. The color and Gel, and interior are original. I don't think Glastron started using flake until '77 or '78.

If your 151 is metalflake blue, you may want to check the date code on the Hull ID. The last 3 digits indicate the year, IE. 76G would be a 76 model. The 'tron calalog shows that the '81 model was only releases in copper, while the '82 catalog shows the SSV-151 in blue here: '82 SSV-151 . Look to see if she has a 25th anniversary tag somewhere. The HID on your tron is on the drivers side stern right below the rubrail.

Both my 'trons are works in progress. The little 166 has been converted for fishing use. It still needs new gauges and some finishing details, but she has made a few trips out since her resto. The 195 is due for new steering and control cables to keep the V8 in control. She has a few more ponies than stock ;) . She also needs a new set of hoses, some new fuel fillers and vents, and a lot of polishing (thus its name,
"Elbow Grease". This winter she will also get treated to a new swim platform (never a factory option on that model) and some trailer work.

It's a good hobby, but I'm not sure I wnat to do another hull up resto any time soon. Not hard, just time consuming and I have decided the smell of grinding fglass is not nice.
