I just purchased my very first boat about 2 mo. ago from a very good friend that decided he no longer wanted to fish in the Bay but would rather fish in the local lakes. He bought a new bass boat and offered his old boat to me for a VERY low price. The boat is a 1987 Bayliner Trophy 2460 with hardtop on a 1989 Calkins roller trailer. I have not had the opportunity to get this into the water yet this summer but want to change the oil and lube in my stern drive unit beforehand.

I ordered a service manual from iBoats a couple of days ago (Seloc - I believe) and hopefully it will have the recommended oil and lube to use. I called Bayliner and they sent me an owners manual but that info isn't in there.

My questionis are there any tricks to changing the oil filter on the 5.0L OMC? Looks like its going to be a lot of fun!!!!

First off, welcome aboard!!!

Yes, "a lot of fun" can be used to describe most procedures that require you to remove something on a marine engine. Can you post a pic of the oil filter location? Also, take a look at the Adults Only section ^^^^ there are some OMC manuals there although primarily Merc and Volvo stuff.
