Need some specs

1988 40 hp johnson

I need WOT rpm range and maximum spark advance spec. Bought a motor and mounted it on a new boat.

Any info would be appreciated.

Try this it may help

Ebscohost.com for username and password use "marshall" and "public" without the quotes of course. Manuals for just about all motors are available in condensed form as PDF files for free download, just look under small engine repair from main page after you sign in.

Thank you for the info. I went to the site and could not find the login area? I searched around for a bit and couldnt find anything?

My limited info indicates rpm range is 4500 to 5500.
My after market service manual doesn't mention any timing onfo.

Found the spec I was looking for thanx so much this will be a great help in the future. Max spark advance should be 19 degrees at 5000 rpm.

Wow what a cool link!!!, looks like an actual factory manual, after looking at this i have realized that i put my thermostats in backward, i just replaced them but have not run the motor, i bought a seloc manual and the pics are so small i couldnt tell which wat the thermostats went, well now i know, thanks so much Lexer440 !!!
