Hi All,
I am attempting to replace my fuel pump on my 1996 MerCruiser 3.0L engine and need some expert help, as I am a novice on this one. I have detached the hose coming in from the fuel tank and the small rubber tube connected to the fuel pump but can seem to figure out how to detach the metal tube going from the fuel pump to the carburetor. It is probably easy but I am trying not to force anything in fear of breaking something.
I loosened the screw that you can see by my finger in the attached picture thinking that it would just drop that tube but it didn’t. Any thoughts on what I need to do with that metal tube? In addition, once I detach that, will that be all I have to do to remove that fuel pump?

Second subject is getting another fuel pump as this engine is over 25 years old. Any good thoughts on what fuel pump I should buy to replace this one? Any links you have would be great.

As always, thank you for helping me out with any information you have as I have 2 eager kids ready to hit the lake this Summer in Seattle!

Reinstall the compression fitting at the fuel pump outlet. Then, as mentioned earlier remove the clamp mounting bolt on the rocker cover

Use a 5/8" flare wrench and 1" open end wrench to remove the flare fitting at the carburertor inlet. Use care not to damage the 5/8" hex flare end of the fuel line

Once the line is removed from the carburertor then you can remove the compression fitting from the fuel pump outlet and the fuel line complete

Why are you replacing the pump in the first place?
Was your pump leaking, or pushing fuel thru the tygon hose? If not are you replacing the pump just for the sake of replacing the pump?

The stock pump is a Carter marine pump. About $50 at places like Summit racing or Jegs. Do not buy any pump from Amazon
