Hello!

We have a 1967 Chrysler 9.2hp, model 9701, serial # 2402 with a broken recoil spring. We're supposed to head up north to go fishing in a few days, so we need to fix it quick! (I guess the good news is it broke now, instead of in the north woods)

Can anyone please describe the best way to install new spring? Any tips or pointers would really be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Try franzmarine@aol.com. There should be a rope pulley on the flywheel so if you don't get the spring in time, remove the recoil if it is on top and rope start. If the recoil is low in the front, you need not remove anything to rope start.

That's funny! Franz Marine has been amazingly helpful & the new spring should be here tomorrow. :)
He described the process to my boyfriend but since we've never attempted this before it might be better to have a reference handy for the tricky parts.
We downloaded the service manual that Hurrikaine marine sells. But it doesn't cover this.
So thanks in advance for any advice!
