need help. please

i just bought a 1987 bayliner caprie. the guy i bought it from had it out running a couple of hours before i got there. but he said it over heated and shut off. i was wondering where i could start on fixing the over heating problem. thank you very much

Firstly...welcome to iboats!

Secondly...are you nuts? It overheated and you still bought it? I seriously hope it did no permanent damage. The water pump impeller is the first place to start, and would be the cheapest fix. Beyond that...it gets expensive fast. Going to need a lot more info before anyone can give you much help. What Engine? What Drive? Maybe a model or serial number from them? Maybe some pics?

It over heated and shut off or he shut it off, if it is the first YIKES he could have done some really serious damage, engines don't like to be overheated.

And what is causing it to overheat could be anything from an impeller to a cracked block, I think you should have walked from this one.

As infidel said get up what engine and drive so people know what they are talking about.

Need make and model number of the engine, Ryan. Can't do anything but scold you for buying it without that.

o man that was harsh... but i walked away with for almost free. so really no hurt to me. i will get model numbers and all that stuff later. and pics
