It happened today by accident. No trolling no expensive lures and a lot of dumb luck.
It was on a mooneye under a bobber for pike on a 17 pound test with a thin steel leader. The tiger muskie measured 34 inches.
Does that make me a member of the select muskie hunter club?

Thanks for allowing me into the club.
M.Y. I caught it in the lake 10 miles south of exit 40 on the throughway. The water there is so clear that you can see them swimming along the sides of the weedbeds.Except that the ones you see, never seem to react to any morsel you offer them.

Exit 40 should be a little past Syracuse I think. I'm thinking maybe Skineatles Lake? The water is clear as glass there?

OK.
It is Owasco Lake. The south western weedbeds which are under the steep slopes.
The DEC has been quietly stocking it with muskies.
Most of the fishing on the lake is for trout and bass and mostly on the north end.The south western area is very lightly fished and pristine.
It is the perfect catch and release lake.

My first was by accident too. I was fishing one pole for pike and catching perch on another. I caught a small bluegill and decided to try some more native bait. 24" What a rush!
