Hi, I will try to give you as much detail as I can for someone to help solve my boats capsizing. The live well kept overflowing which it has never done. I kept checking the lowest section of my bass boat where the batteries and fuel tanks are, and it was totally dry. We were catching fish like crazy so I didn't worry too much since the rest of the boat seemed fine. All of a sudden though water was all over the floor and the part that was dry was filling up quickly and by the time I started it, it went under and turned over. Does anyone have any ideas please & Thank you?

The most obvious answer would be a broken thru hull fitting.

Alternatively, if the livewell was operating, maybe the drain clogged, or broke at the thru hull.

Thank you, Chris. This is my first boat and I am 55. Can you explain a little like where the fitting might be but you were right on it was working great the Livewell then for some reason it kept coming up through there like a clogged toilet.

all the livewell plumbing is under the deck tub. time to pull out everything you can pull out. most livewell plumbing is plastic and needs to be replaced every 10 years or so. same goes with plastic thru-hull fittings

as racerone stated, get that motor running within a few hours.

Being a bass boat, my money is on a failed (plastic) bait well pump connection at the back of the boat

Livewell kept overflowing folks. Sounds like the drain was either plugged or overwhelmed with volume.

Once you get your boat back and dried out.....does the livewell input have a valve on it where you can adjust the flow? Cause to me it sounds like it was wide open. Mine's adjustable which is why I'm asking.

appreciate all the advice. At his time I think I will check this suggestion out first.

No, my boat is old and doesn't have that. It's a 1986 boat with a 1968 55hp Evinrude.

I am more than willing to show up. I have a boat that I can't figure where the leaking was coming but I did wire the pump back up which may have been part of it all but yes I am as Greenhorn as it gets to an old outboard or boat period. It almost fired up yesterday but I noticed some white pasty stuff leaking out the valve where the pump hose goes in the 6 gallon tank telling me there is more than like water?

Come on man cut him some slack he is an obvious novice, no need to humiliate him with a question like that.
Explain a pressurized gas can on a 1968 model 55 Evinrude.
Well, the 6 gallon tanks have a pressure that seems to build up in them as you pump the ball which does not let water into the tank. It bloats up and when you tighten the gas cap so to speak it clicks like your car does I figure to let you know you have it in the right place.

THis is something I found from the Atwa I bought on AMazon -

Question:

Does this portable fuel tank have a vent cap on it? Thanks

Answer:

Our 8806LP2 do not offer a vented cap.

Mine does not vent. On very hot days, the tank expands and gas leaks out. The only thing that helps is leaving the cap a bit loose.

As far as I know, the tank will inhale air as the fuel is consumed through a one way vent in the cap and on a hot day it "will" exhale to avoid an over-pressure, but it is not just open to let fumes out routinely.

I did not ask for this mess I am in and I wish I would not have paid good cash for it but now it's either sell it as a big loss or try and do it myself if there is anyone willing enough to help.

Like to help myself. Do you have pictures of the area of the live well, plumbing, thru hulls and stuff? I think that would help us out on here.
