Motor well boot sealing

Got this boat and realized the other day that the rubber boot that seals off the opening for outboard fuel line and cables and hydraulic is in bad shape and represents a pretty big hole in the hull not too high above waterline…changing that isn’t an easy job I suppose so I was wondering if anyone has a better idea on how to seal that up?

Yours does need replacing. I do not have a better ideal. Use some silicone on the base of the boot, cut the boot hole larger if necessary to get cables, steering cable, fuel and electric line thru it. Install a cable tie around boot and lines to help it seal somewhat.

Auto parts stores used to sell a CV joint repair boot that was split to get it on without disassembly of the axle shaft assembly. It sealed up pretty good at the seam. Might look into one. Just a hunch.

A number of aftermarket boots are split to facilitate installation.

I think I would much rather disconnect the cables and lines from the engine, rather than trying to seal a split boot. That is just me.

Gee, rip that out and try again. You can cut the end of the boot to make the hole larger. Pull that cable on the side to the center and use some cable ties to hold it together. The cables can distort the boot, but should come thru the center.
