Motor runs but in water dies when throttled

I have 81 sunrunner 18ft with 3.8 v6 and omc sterndrive compression 150 all cylinders I have replaced points condensor,fuel pump,and just put on new carb,new fuel in clean tank runs great on the muffs but when I put into the water it idles great but when I power up it dies any suggestions

I hope the carburetor you purchased is a Marine carburetor for your engine and not an automobile version.
When did the problem begin before you started changing parts?
The problem may be in the fuel tank suction tube. Have you checked the condition of the fuel hose between the tank and fuel filter?

Yes it is a marine carburetor and no I have not not checked the full length of the fuel line. I bought the boat with the existing problems from a friend that really didn't tell me everything, I will check the entire fuel line

For a boat that age there is a very good chance that the suction tube in the tank is some of the problem. There is a fine mesh screen inside the tube that has to be removed and left out.

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,..... Even brand new carbs need to be properly tuned when installed,.....
It sounds like yer's isn't,.....

Sound like your fuel line is sucking air and killing the motor when the demand is higher than Idle. I have had this happen to may times on my outboards.
