Motor Question

I have a couple questions about my boat motor. First, its a 91 or 92 force 150. Now, last year I had it completly die on me. I was then told to get a new starter, but that did not do it. Then I cleaned out one of the carbs. and it ran but it averaged 10 MPH slower than it should and the RPM's were way down. I thought it may be due to the fact that we had a lot of algae on the bottom and because we had 60 gallons of gas in it which is twice as much as I usually put in it. Now, I just launched it yesterday and the speed was still way down as were the RPM's. I still have all the gas in it but none of the algae. Also, it does not idle very well, it wants to die. Any ideas??? Thanks you for your help!!!!!!

Walter <><

Re: Motor Question

You may want to ask this in the motor/engine forum. Many of the people there may not check over here....

Re: Motor Question

Hey Slimy,
Yensid is right. Pls post in teh engine forum as there are some really sharp folks over there.

I have a boat with a 150 force on it. it is an 89 version but dont think a whole lot different than yours.

Optimistically - it may need a simple decarbing and tune up. Kind of hard to say with the info you provided.

Pessimistically - I.nN 1994 mine exhibited the same symptoms - 10 mph less top end, wouldnt tach out (not even close). For example back then it would do about 50 at 53-5500 RPM. Then one day it wouldnt do but 38 at about 4000 RPM. The top plug revealed water ingestion (white gummy stuff all over the end of the plug). Took it to the shop to find the top cylinder was gone and the 4th getting close. Engine rebuild to the tune of 2300 bucks. Then shortly after that the lower end went out - guessing from the additional torque of the rebuilt top end. 600 more bucks.

Would first start out with the simple stuff like cleaning and tuning and compression checks. Hopefully it is something as simple as dirty carbs, carbon buildup, bad plugs, or fuel filters (or a combination of the lot) and not major stuff.

Good Luck
Deerdog
