I am having a problem with a motor I pout on my boat last week. The motor has been sitting for 3 years, I put new gas, new plugs, new gas filter, etc. The motor is sputtering. I spayed carb cleaner into the motor. That helped but still the motor will not open up all of the way there fore not going above 10 MPH. It starts to go then just sort of dies down. Would taking the carbrators off and cleaning them be the solution? any advice would be helpful..

Pull the fuel pump and put a new diaphram in it, if the carbs are clean.
The rubber diaphram will dry-out over time, and crack. The diaphram is usually some type of fabric which is coated with rubber.
The rubber will stiffen, and small pieces will flake-off.
If it doesn't fix the problem, you aren't out any money, as it WOULD have failed shortly anyway. But if it still acts the fool, get back to us.

If the carbs on the motor were not totally drained before storing it for three years, then i will bet money that the carbs can use a cleaning. Very easy to do for the do-it-yourselfer.
