I just got back from my weekly trip to the dump and came home with a Johnson motor thaty looks to be maybe a 3 or 4 horse. All my books stop at around 1960 so I could use some help with ID.

The serial # is E35377
model #4w72

Going by the #s I am venturing a guess that it is a 4 horse from 72?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Joe

Hi, Joe.

Your ventured guess is a bulls-eye. :)

Hi KE4,
The "W" in the model number refers to it being a weedless model. If it had been an "R", it would be the right-angle drive...Not bad little motors, but I do prefer to run them a little on the rich side, as they are old-tech in the bearings department... maybe 40:1 for a little measure of safety.
- Scott
