I keep my 23 mako at a mooring ..my line set up is as follows...I run a 3/4 3 strand braided nylon line from a ring attached to my bouhy with the other end to the bow eye with a heavy duty caribiner ..both ends have thimbles. My back up line goes from the bouy ring ( next to the main line on same ring) to a bow cleat..the back up line is 5/8 and is 5 ffet longer.....usually I tape the crap out of the lines binding them togeather in several places and they add sections of pool noodles with wire ties for flotation...This system works excellen but is a pain to keep every year due to the tape...How could I bind the lines togeather without making a big mess of everything..????????.I never used to bind them but they got tangled..the floats help alot also...thanks

Re: mooring line help

i heard the noodles work pretty good. you could alway get 2 spliced into one but the thing is it makes that rope have a week point it holds up tho i see a lot of boats that have that.

Re: mooring line help

I leave my 21' on the buoy for a couple months during the season but it's on and off every day at least once. My lines are 5/8" braided nylon with thimbles in the spliced ends. I have a shackle on each end through the thimble and through through a brass snap hook. My main line is 10' and through a urethane snubber with slack to absorb some shock, but I don't think it helps much, and the snap hook is on the top ring of the buoy. My secondary line is snapped to the chain below the about a foot below the buoy and is 2' longer than the main. Both snap onto the front ring on the boat. When I leave for the day they quickly snap on to the main line's snap hook ring and are easy to reattach to the bow ring. I leave them both independent. If they start to get wrapped I just unhook one and unwrap it when I go for a swim, or from a boat.
I don't like cable ties because they can cause a chaffing point but that's probably just me. I would not tie to a bow cleat because a storm that will cause the main to fail is not the time I want to be pulling down from higher up on the bow and I've never seen a deck cleat near as solid as the bow eye.
