My 79 Tiara 2000 has a Gm 305 rebuild block in it. It runs and trolls just great. I have always just used the recommended 30 weight oil.
Is it a good or bad idea to use the synthetics such as Mobile 1 in marine engines?
I use synthetics in my Duramax with good results.

My personal opinion is that for recreational (occasional) boating the oil will not see enough duty for synthetic to make a difference. At least my oil comes out nearly as clean as when it went in. I fish however so you could hardly say I'm putting the motor through it's paces.

If you are expecting a simple, awe inspiring answer to your question, forget it, there isn't one. Pick an oil and go for it.
No matter what oil it is, someone, somewhere, sometime, has used it and would recommend it to everyone because it worked for them.
Here are some previous theads about which oil to use.
