Hello, Would a 50lb thrust Minni-Kota be useful as a kicker for a 17Ft. Tri-hull? We have an opportunity to get this. Thanks all!

It's a great trolling motor for working the fishing areas. What else would you want it for? You might need an additional battery to accomodate the motor.

Bob

Hi Bob, It's wa3ipb's wifey. We were wondering if it would get us back to dock if our 85HP quit on us say about 1-2 miles out instead of rowing back. It will be used in saltwater with current. By the way, we did get it. At least it will give me a little reassurance. Hopefully we'll never have to let you know how it worked!

Hi ka3wld,

A month ago my wife and I were on the Potomac about 1.5 miles downstream from our launch site when the 40 horse 'Rude lower unit broke bad.

All we had was a paddle and an Evinrude Scout (c. 1990) bow mount trolling motor (24 volt). My guess is the Scout is about 40-50 lbs thrust.

We were not the most impressive sight on the river as we in our Lowe 17' V hull bass limped back to harbor. It seemed an eternity (actually about an hour when all was said and done), but we made it - I'll never go anywhere without a trolling motor and freshly charged batteries - that combo sure pulled us out of a potentially bad/expensive situation.

Get the Minn Kota!

Semper Gumby
tcube

Hi tCube, Oh that's bad but good news. You know what I mean. We did buy the Minni Endura 50 on Ebay. It's been factory re-conditioned with a one year warantee?spell.
We should get it early next week. The last time we were out out 85Hp died but luckily we only had to row about 200 yards to the dock. We "think" we have the motor problem solved but I don't want to row again if not. You should have seen hubby and I sitting on the stern rowing and singing "Show me the way to go Home".

We were most embarrassed as there were numerous people at the docks! Thanks for the extra confidence with purchasing the TM

Hi ka3wld,

No need to be embarassed when limping back to the dock - all those people have had it happen to them, too. The ones who say they haven't are probably stretching the truth!

When you get your Minn Kota, get a new marine deep cycle battery - WalMart has them reasonably priced. Also get a good deep cycle charger with automatic shut off so you don't over charge the battery. I think I got mine at Pep Boys.

Good Luck
Semper Gumby
tcube
