Mercury 2 cycle alarm

My oil reservoir was low and alarm sounded, added gallon in remote tank, checked that oil was in engine top oil container and was. Motor then ran great with oil in reservoir and engine container. Alarm still sounds off. Mechanic will look at it later but is it safe to use now? 20 year old 150hp engine . Thanks

Might be the float switch went bad, or is hanging
Disconnect the tank switch wires to see if the alarm stops, if it does your probably good

Mercs also have alarms for overheat. Is that possible?
