I wondered if anybody can help please.

I am installing a Mercruiser Bravo 3 Gimbal Housing assembly in a newly modified transom. I have the proper Mecruiser cutting jig to drill the holes and mark out the cut-out on the transom and the 60 degree angle holes for the hole saw to install the steering arm. Now … this is where the confusion starts … the Installation manual that came with the sterndrive clearly states the hole cutter should be 51mm diameter and yet the paper template states 44mm hole cutter diameter. Probably not a great deal of difference in the grand scheme of things, but having spent many hours rebuilding the transom it would be nice to have it correct. I have measured the Gimbal Housing back plate and that is 44mm! I assume that a slightly bigger cut-out maybe gives a little more leeway for the steering arm. The installation manual is 2019 but the paper template is from 2008. I am tempted to drill 51mm diameter – Any comments would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... I'd drill the larger hole,.....
If there's any interference, grind it out with a die-grinder,.....
