ok Yes I am a girl and trying to get this boat restored for my husbands birthday. Just so I get all info right I bought a 1996 stingray boat with a trailer. So the engine is rusty as hell and I dont know if its even reparable and its the 3.0/lx So before I take it to our very busy repair man I want to make sure I have all parts. I found a mercruiser 3.0 for sale it does not have that piece coming out back but we have the one that comes out the back of ours. YES I KNOW THE NAME FITS but its a surprise for my husband any info would help thanks
Not sure what question you are asking ? Are you asking if the 3.0 base engine will work in place of the 3.0 LX off a 1996? Or are you asking about the piece on the back ( assuming you mean outdrive where the propellor attaches) if that will swap?
The 3.0 and 3.0 LX will swap bolt in if it is an engine 1990 or newer. They changed to a one piece rear main seal that year that hcnaged flywheel size. There should be a mercruiser engine number tag by the starter you can tell for sure off that.
For the outdrive change over if thats what your question was the cut over to watch would be pre 1991 (Alpha one out drive) vs 1991 and up is alpha one Gen two ... The pre 1991 drive will not bolt up to a 1996 bell housing on the transom..
