What are the differences between these motors ?I Bought a 78 Grady-White with a bad motor. On advice of .a mechanic friend I got a 250 chevy motor out of a 76 truck (which we heard run)swapped all the parts.(easily interchangable)sent the head out off the merc, everything is now ready to go back in the boat and...I start hearing I can't do this...boat friends are telling me cam, connecting rods, bearings are way different..Have I been pouring money in the wrong whole?..p.s. This was all done for reasons of economy..I also had to rebuild the interior of the boat ,floors, floatation,fiberglass..

Yes, This can be done but their are some differences. Take a look at this link. I think it will help you. Difference between auto and marine You need to use the distributor, starter, carb and fuel pump from your old engine. Use brass freeze plugs and stainless steel head gasket (saltwater use). Marine cam.
