merc starter part#'s wich will work?

I have a 1980 50 hp merc outboard,the starter went bad,I have found 4 or 5 that look like they will work(I am looking for a used starter becouse MY WIFE said I have put way to much in the boat already) anyway.... my old starter has no part # on it anywhere.Can someone tell me what starter part#'s will work on my motor is there more than 1? thanks

I was told by one of these old timers that you could look up the parts by engine serial number and they were right, try mercurypartsexpress.com I got a lead to web site that way and I got a break down of the parts i was looking for. There is a cat in N.cali who has alot of good new and used inexpensive parts he ships any method and very knowledgeable #(866)375-6000 calls himself Ron.
