Hi All

I bought A little single cylinder 1997 3.3 hp 2 stroke mercury outboard

I used it at the weekend but i had trouble starting it as once i turned the petrol on it just overflowed through the carb.

Before using it the motor had its plug replaced, gearbox oil changed, impeller changed, carb removed and cleaned, replaced test run for around 20 mins all ok,

First time taken onto boat I get this problem yet it was fine on the test run

any advice as to why and how to resolve the problem

thank you

Was the engine tilted up when you turn on the fuel? If so, a cup of coffee will also spill over if tilted. If the engine was vertical however, and it dribbled gas, then the float stuck or the inlet needle and seat stuck or both were installed and/or adjusted incorrectly.

Hi

Thanks for your help

the motor was started in the shallow drive feature so I guess that coudl explain it, I will try to run it normal and see what happens,

Could be your float needs adjustment.

Have a great day,

Rob.
