I took my boat out for 1st time. I had a new waterpump and the carbs were cleaned out. The previous ownr had it sitting for 6 years. What can I do since it kept sputtering and dying after running great for the 1st hour. Does it need to have the carbs rebuilt?

When the carbs were cleaned was the fuel system cleaned as well?It sounds like you have a fuel blockage check the system starting at the tank right thru to the carbs.Replace the filter if you have one & if you dont put one in it will help stop this happening again. :)

The mechanic sadi that he cleaned all the old fuel out of the motor. I replaced the tank, and fuel line using the original hook up that I removed from the old line and it too was cleaned thoroughly. The old tank had been sitting for 6 years and was half full. After the motor quit, when I did get it back running and under way at full throttle it wasn't running as fast as it was. Do I need to add anything to fuel, like oil or something? ;)

Before you spend any money on it, try this. Mix up a tank of fuel at 50:1 ratio. That's 16 ounces of a good marine brand TCW-3 oil in a standard 6 gallon tank., or 2.6 ounces of oil per gallon. If you were running on just gas before that could be your problem. If that was the case, you're lucky you didn't burn it up.
