This is a 1967 50 horse 500ssls.It has 120psi on all four, new L76V plugs, completely rebuilt carburators, clean fresh fuel and enough spark to jump over 1/4 inch.
Is there a cutout switch I should know about?
In another post I read something about suspecting the "trigger".What is this trigger?
Sometimes after running the starter a bit it will back fire or fire one stroke and then actually stop the starter as if it kicks in against it.
Is there something obvious here I should know about?
Any advice will be highly appreciated.
ps,yes I do have a manual.
thanks,Rolmops.

Re: merc 500 refuses to start

I have a 105 mercury motor and it starts and I run it around sand lake michigan and after 10 minutes it cuts off....it seems like a safety switch that cut us off.

I appreciate any help I can get...
