i recently bought a 24'Grady-White with a 1988 Merc200 Black Max.this motor runs great except between 1000-2000rpm.it runs rough enough to shake the boat till i back down to 1000 or go above 2000. the problem is for kingfish i like to troll at 1500.the compression checks great& the motor was just tuned&starts easily&will run up to 5500 easily.i was told that this is a normal thing with these motors. if this is true then i have change to a different brand outboard. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks, richard

Re: MERC.200 runs rough

Hi Ricsan11,
To bad. That rpm range is the cross over between the high and low speed jets. so the air-fuel mix is not perfect. Two options come to mind. 1,run a smaller prop to raise the rpm at your trolling speed, maybe a tourqe **** prop. 2, try changing the idle jets to see if that will smooth it out. Good luck.

------------------
...have fun...corm

cubic inches = power
power = speed
speed = FUN

Email me if you need to.
