merc 15 hp 4 stroke: oil leaking from lower unit

I noticed that oil was leaking from the lower unit when i had the motor in the water. When i took the prop off and stood it upright, the gearcase oil drained out steadily from inside the lower unit. Water was in the oil. Is this a quick fix or a major problem? i.e. can i do it myself?

Sounds like you need the prop/gearcase seals redone. It will be a major problem if you dont get it fixed ASAP. I wouldnt be putting the leg in water again till it is done.

Never done it myself. Might be worth getting a mechanic to do that one.
