Anyone know of a good way to repair a piece made of PP? As it is a type of plastic which doesn't react to solvents I suppose that melting it may be the only way to go....
They make a plastic welking kit with different materials which are used as "welding" rods. PP, ABS, etc. I've seen some repairs that look like bubble gum and others that look quite well.
Polyethylene is weldable with a heat gun, scrap PE and patience. It is frequently done to repair damaged whitewater kayaks and the results can be quite good if done by someone with skill and patience. Patience is key because its easy to go too fast and melt a hole in the plastic. Polypropylene can also be welded. If the broken piece is important you'll want someone with experience to fix it.
I use a regular soldering gun, and use a razor blade to slice a piece of non-essential plastic off the original part, and use that as a "welding rod".. slow is the key...
