Re: mek v's acetone ?

Regular Mek (NOT Mek-p) can be used as a thinner for gelcoat when spraying; for this both acetone and mek will work. Personally I thin my gel with Duratec. But each person has their own recipe for what works for them. As far as cleanup, I strictly use acetone.

When looking to use a thinner for poly/laminating resin (to be used with fiberglass) I personally would not recommend doing this. If you need a thin resin for wetting out try using a different brand of resin (some are pretty thin out of the can), warming the resin a little (but be prepared to work faster) or try a vinylester resin.

Hope this helps! :)

As far as I know .. nothing will flush like acetone ..

So Yes ... and no .. Mek is a solvent agreed.

Free MEK is good for a flush .. but not a final flush-out IMHO .. Acetone would be my final flush ..

tannks YD was intending to use MEK as clean up only finishing off with acetone as you suggest, but see the mek as a money saver so to speak:D
