Mariner 80 tach

Before I had the power head replaced on my motor the tach would work sometimes and sometimes not. After the new power head it does not work at all. I think perhaps a loose wire/bad connection is the fault. Where would the wires from the dash run to and what colour would they be? I don't want to take the motor all the way back to the shop for something I can possibly fix. I think I have a 1980 model.

!<br /><br />I have not looked yet Rick but notice that the tach only works while I crank the motor. Are we still on the right track?
