I finally gave up on my late seventies 80hp Mariner. (25 to 30 years old so its done OK I suppose). The dealer found me a second hand Mariner 75 of similar vintage and said the two motors are identical in every way except for the tuning and the carbs. He swopped the power heads over and we are flying again. Can this be true or do the powerheads just happen to be interchangeable?

More then likely, what your dealer sez is true. Same applys to lots of engines. Same block, pistons, crankshaft, etc. Diffefence in power is carbs and timing.

c/6
Hooty

Sometimes the difference is as little as the year, and what HP designation they need to properly stagger the line.

The '78 - '82 140 has the same basic parts list as the '73-'78 150.

-W
