I had thread about my Mariner 40 magnum not starting this past week.Well I still have not got it to run.Heres what I have done so far.

-Checked for spark -GOOD
-Checked Fuel Lines- GOOD
-Checked Fuel filter- GOOD
-Checked Enrichment Valve- GOOD
-Cleaned carbs,Reset Floats- GOOD
-Made sure battery was fully charged

Only idea i have left is unplug the killswitch wire from motor and see if that works.Anyone else have any ideas?

Re: Mariner 40

if it didn,t start with the wiring harness disconnected from the engine i don,t think that would be it. but you can try it.check coil grounds.cowel grounds negative battery grounds.

Re: Mariner 40

jump start the starter solenoid or use a remote start switch. You can unhook the harness at the engine without unhooking the battery. Use choke to kill the engine when done. You can use a screwdriver to jump from the main positive from the battery terminal on the starter solenoid to the small terminal on the bottom of the starter solenoid to create the connection required to turn the engine over. I think it has an S on the solenoid. for starter. also check the terminals when you disconnect the harness these sometimes get corroded which may also be your problem

Unplug the Harness at the engine and Check For Corrosion.

Take some fuel in a spray bottle and squirt in the throats of carbs, if it does not hit and run for a second you have ignition problems. If so take a timing light and hook to plug wire and see if you have spark. I have seen this ignition design have weak spark and the compression of cylinder prevent plug from firing. This system should jump a 3/8 gap with ease and be a very bright blue with a "pop". If not the stator is weak and needs tested/replaced.

Re: Mariner 40

alright guys on the actual shifter, you know theres a throttle only button if in some weird way if that was bad would it make it not start, reason I say this is because i got it to fire but it just wouldnt hold on long enough to idle. But before i pushed that button in just thinking why not you know.I know thats a longshot but at the same time this is my 1st boat and ive learned a tremendous amount from all this. Its at the point where I wanna take it to a shop but at the same time would rather do it myself as a goal.

Your gonna need a manual if you don,t already have one for staters. All information for testing and trouble shooting for your engine will be in there

Hi, I maybe missing something but prime the ball, at the control put the lever up to high, hold the enricher button in and crank the engine. If it starts keep tapping the enricher button until it stays running on its own.

Re: Mariner 40

I noticed you didn't mention anything about compression. Have you checked that?

Compression?

I sure hope that is not the problem lol.It would probably be my luck tho. i got the boat for 300 dollars and about ten minutes of a chainsaw, like i said it ran when i left his house with it.
